• About Recumbent Seat Fix •
After many painful attempts at long distance bike touring, and the discomfort of daily riding, I was desperate to find a more comfortable bike. This, I began riding recumbents in 1991 -- my first was a Turner I built up from a frame kit. The Turner was a low cost design based off the early Hypercycle. From there I've owned countless recumbents.
In the early '90's I opened the first dedicated recumbent shop in Sacramento, CA selling various brands as well as my own designs. A few years later I assumed management of a family bike shop in South Florida, turning it into one of the largest recumbent dealers in the east. From there I was recruited by BikeE Corp. in Oregon, the largest recumbent manufacturer in the world, at that time. I've performed design work for recumbents and related accessories. Also an active freelance writer, my work saw it's way into various cycling publications including Recumbent Cyclist News, Fitness Cycling and Bicycle. In my recumbent background and experiences, I've been fortunate to have known many of the giants of the recumbent and HPV scene. In more recent years I performed various upholstery projects and repairs as well as refurbishing industrial sewing machines, all as a hobby. Out of convenience, and necessity, my upholstery ability, sewing machine knowledge and recumbent expertise came together. I found there were many perfectly good, recumbents needing only a new mesh cover to be back on the road. Consequently, RSF (Recumbent Seat Fix) was born. Now, in semi-retirement, I offer my ability to the recumbent community. I know these bikes/trikes, understand their seating and have specialty industrial sewing machines that can tackle about anything recumbent related. Whether your recumbent is bike, trike or velocar, American, British, European, Australian or Asian, still in production or the manufacturer is long gone, it can now have a new, high quality seat. My focus for new seats is on strength, comfort, simplicity and making improvements over stock. RSF seats are handcrafted from premium materials in Colorado, USA. Options, customizations and special requests may be available. If you are interested in a new seat, repair or modification of a seat, bags, panniers or other bicycle related sewing needs, please go to my Contact & Orders page. The production of my seats allow me to make donations to Guardians of Rescue an organization specializing in more difficult animal rescues. They tackle a wide range of situations. From extreme hoarding and abuse situations to natural disaster rescues to bringing home the adopted pets of soldiers in conflict zones. Guardian Of Rescue are known as 'The Bad Asses Of Animal Rescue' doing what needs to be done.
